What to expect in your first session

It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous before our first appointment. My goal for our initial meeting is to make you feel heard, comfortable and informed.

Here is how we will spend our first 50 minutes together:

A safe space to share

We’ll start by discussing what has brought you to therapy. You don’t need to have the ‘perfect’ way of explaining this – I will ask gentle questions to help me understand the challenges you’re facing and how they are affecting your daily life.

Understanding your goals

Some people come to therapy with specific goals in mind of what they want to achieve – this is great! However, don’t worry if you don’t! This is something we can work on and create together. Knowing your ‘destination’ helps us build the right map for you within therapy.

Making those CBT links

We’ll begin to look at the links between your thoughts, feelings and actions. This helps us to start seeing patterns that might be keeping your stuck, giving us a starting point for our work together.

No pressure!

Our first session is simply about information gathering and ensuring you feel heard, supported and validated. Together, we’ll agree a plan for our therapy sessions but don’t worry, this plan can change and adapt over time. Therapy is about you and what you need.
